Dr Noori Abdulrahman tells American conference about investment opportunities and plans for reform in Kurdistan
Washington DC, USA (www.us.gov.krd) – Dr Noori Othman, chairman of the Kurdistan Board of Investment and head of Coordination and Follow-up, addressed an economic conference in Washington today via online video conference outlining the business opportunities in Kurdistan Region.
The moderator, Justin Carney reflected that the video conference with Dr. Noori Othman as a new benchmark in collaboration ever attempted with an government official in Kurdistan in his opening speech remark.
The conference, titled ‘Iraq's Economy: Challenges and Opportunities’, was hosted by the Johns Hopkins University's Center for Transatlantic Relations and attended by American, Kurdish and Iraqi officials, business men and media.
Dr Othman, who joined the conference by internet video conference,said, 'The region has great opportunities for investment and promising growth in minerals, industry, agriculture, education, tourism, health, and trade sectors.’
He added that, ‘Kurdistan is open for the whole world and is a gate to the rest of Iraq.’
He also answered questions from the conference participants on the planned IMF loan to Iraq, privatization plans in Kurdistan and priority areas for investment.
He was part of a panel that included Joseph Pennington, the Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US Department of State.
The conference is the first such event in Washington for some years and was organized with the support of the KRG Representation in the US, the Iraqi Embassy and the office of the US Trade Representative.
